Pulled Pork

Pulled pork can be easily adapted to fit whatever type of cuisine you want. Here we have an easy pulled pork recipe that you can attack with an Instant Pot or a Slow Cooker. Both methods are shown below. It’s on you to decide what type of liquid you are going to use and what flavor direction you are going to take it. So have fun with it!

Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs. pork shoulder, cut into 4 parts
  • 2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 cup liquid

Instructions

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

  1. Apply garlic salt and pepper to pork shoulder evenly.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. Sear the pork for 2-3 minutes a side, browning the meat.
  3. Place pork shoulder in slow cooker.
  4. Add approximately 1 cup of liquid to slow cooker. NOTE: The type of liquid can be based off of the type of flavor you are going for (EX: beer, lime juice, water, broth, etc.).
  5. Cook on low for 8-9 hours or on high for 6 hours.
  6. Shred meat with two forks and turn the slow cooker to warm. Enjoy!

Instant Pot Pulled Pork

  1. Apply garlic salt and pepper to pork shoulder evenly.
  2. Turn Instant Pot to Saute and place in 2. tbsp of olive oil. 
  3. Once the olive oil begins to smoke slightly, place the pork into the Instant Pot, searing 2-3 minutes each side, browning the meat.
  4. Turn off Instant Pot. 
  5. Add approximately 1 cup of liquid to the Instant Pot. NOTE: The type of liquid can be based off of the type of flavor you are going for (EX: beer, lime juice, water, broth, etc.).
  6. Place the lid on the Instant Pot, with the steam valve closed.
  7. Set Instant Pot to Pressure Cook on High. Set for 40 minutes. 
  8. When time expires, allow Instant Pot to naturally release, about 15-20 minutes. 
  9. Remove lid, shred meat with two forks and turn the Instant Pot to warm. Enjoy!
